When I was about 14 years old, my nan bought me a beautiful, intricate silver ring with a pale amethyst stone in the centre. Since then, I have been (much like my nan!) obsessed with stunning jewellery pieces, especially those that have been crafted with care and love by hand. And Sharon Tsao’s handmade delicate pieces are no exception to that obsession!
Inspired by her architectural background and by the world around her, Sharon’s pieces are finely crafted, beautifully simplistic and mesmerising to look at.
Beautiful spaces breed beautiful work. Especially when those space are filled with divinely crafted, handmade pieces like the stunning Indonesian furniture and homewares sourced by the creative genius behind Coco Rose Interiors, Petria Field.
This time last year, I was a careless consumer. There is no doubt about that.
I remember having a discussion with my mother about how chilly Melbourne was and how much I spent on heating (we have the most thrilling conversations!) and my mother was shocked by my bill. At the time, I wasn’t particularly concerned about the cost of keeping my feet warm while I worked from home.
“It’s not good for the environment though, you know?” she commented.
This hit me.
It hit me hard.
Australians send over 50,000 disposable coffee cups to landfill every 30 minutes. That is enough to fill a tram. Yep, let that sink in for a moment. A tram’s worth of coffee cups every half an hour.
It is disgraceful and so unnecessary.
But instead of getting angry about it, here are a few things that you can do about it.
I came across Kris’ stunning work on a mutual Facebook group for incredible, creative businesswomen, and holey moley am I glad I did! Kris’ work is the perfect way to complete any room, but most importantly, she pours her heart, creativity and craftsmanship into each piece so you really feel a connection between the artworks and their maker.
I have been following the work of Hazel & Herb for a while. I even had the beautiful creative behind the brand, Rivel Hazel, create a collection of ring cones and jewellery pieces from my wedding bouquet this year! Her products are delicately crafted with a genuine love for the natural world that surrounds us and a patient, slow approach to creating that is rare in this fast-paced society.
Natural products always have a place in my heart but organic, botanical products with a whole lot of heart and beautiful branding, that is a dream come true. Christiana’s collection of handmade blend certified organic or Australian essential oils and absolutes with organic botanicals and delightful little additions like Australian organic oats, coconut cream powder, organic fairtrade cocoa butter and Australian clay's create the ultimate in relaxing, guilt-free bathing.
This Valentine’s Day is going to be all about the self-love. No I’m not single and just saying that because I don’t want to think the whole Valentine’s Day thing is getting to me. I am saying it because self-love is so important and on a day that is all about celebrating everybody’s love for one another, it is particularly important to remember yourself on that list of Valentines
As a creative business owners, I spend a lot of my time working from my study or kitchen table but sometimes a change of scenery really helps to get those creative juices flowing. So I thought I would share with you my favourite spots that inspire me, no matter what sort of mood I am in!
Jess’s creative talents are undoubtedly out of this world, but her ability to foster creativity in others, to bring the joy of crafting to those around her, and to be generally just an absolutely ace human being is nothing short of a miracle. Her creations are personal, raw, tactile and speak a completely different creative language to most other artists I have encountered. She draws her strength from raw, honest expression, and her boldness and passion for her craft is infectious.
Flowers in my home aren’t a luxury, they are an essential. My house is continually filled with pot plants in all shapes and sizes, beautiful fresh flower arrangements from the local market, an array of windowsill fruit and veggie plants, and every other kind of greenery that you can think of! So when the talented team of creatives behind HiPetal reached out to ask if I would like to attend their Melbourne flower arranging workshop, I couldn’t say yes quick enough!
After my third migraine in a week caused by a chaotic schedule and excessive amounts of staring at varying forms of computer screen, I decided enough was enough. It was time to schedule in some slow time.
I love businesses that are on a mission. Little Big Learning are a 100% Australian owned and operated business on a mission to bring beautifully designed, modern Montessori inspired products into every home, and I was super stoked when they reached out to me to develop a series of circular discs depicting a range of emotions for them to distribute to families all over Australia.
The Big Design Market is one of my favourite events of the summer. Brimming with talented designers, makers and creatives of all kinds, this market pops up at the stunning Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton just before Christmas so that you can impress your friends and families with handmade, thoughtful gifts without them ever suspecting that you are a tad disorganised!
If you’re anything like me, you spend your days rushing from one project to another daydreaming about finding a few moments to just slow down and spend some time with your own thoughts. My evening with Jason and the team at You Can You Know was exactly the excuse I have been dreaming of
